Welcome to Title I/Reading Recovery

We currently have two programs offered through our Title I program.

The first program is Title I.  In the Title I program we service students who are in kindergarten through fifth grade.  There are four certified teachers who work in the Title I program.  These sessions are taught by Ms. Roux,  Mrs. Moran, and Mrs. Tulchinsky.  These small group sessions are thirty minutes long.  They are scheduled during a student's independent reading time and do not interfere with classroom instruction.

The tutorial format that we use is as follows:

  • Familiar Reading (5 minutes)
  • Word Play (10 minutes)
  • Guided Reading (10 minutes)
  • Writing (5 minutes)

The goal of Title I is a high-quality education for every child, so the program provides extra help to students who need it most.

The second program is Reading Recovery.  Reading Recovery is a short term intervention that is offered to first graders who are having the greatest difficulty learning to read and write.  These sessions are taught by specifically trained certified teachers, Mrs. Page and Mrs. Portella.  Like Title I, the sessions are thirty minutes long; however, instead of small group sessions it is a one to one ratio.  These sessions are scheduled during independent reading and they do not interfere with classroom instruction.

This is the format that Reading Recovery follows:

  • Rereading familiar books
  • Rereading yesterday's new book
  • Word work
  • Writing a story
  • Assembling a cut-up story
  • Reading a new book

The goal of Reading Recovery is to accelerate students' progress in reading and writing so they reach grade level within 20 weeks.
