TEACHER EVALUATION
On both state and national levels efforts have been focused on improving teacher effectiveness with the updating of teacher standards and requiring student performance as part of teacher evaluation. Effective July 1, 2011 NH Statute RSA 189:14-a has increased teacher tenure from 3 to 5 years for any teacher who has not received tenure in a NH school district. The District Teacher Evaluation System has been revised to address these changes, align all schools, and provide teachers with common guidelines per the District Curriculum-Instruction-Assessment Frameworks, District Teacher Job Description, and School Board Policy.
The NH Department of Education recently revised the requirements for teacher certification based on the updated Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Core Teaching Standards. These standards include learner development, learning differences, learning environments, content knowledge, innovative applications of content, assessment, planning for instruction, instructional strategies, reflection and continuous growth, and collaboration. The District Teacher Job Description has been designed based on these updated standards and has served as one of the foundations of the teacher evaluation system.
The Rubric for Teacher Expectations has incorporated the District Curriculum-Instruction-Assessment Frameworks, District Teacher Job Description, and School Board Policy.
The Teacher Evaluation System was developed by the District Leadership Team and approved by the Teachers' Evaluation Committee.
