The Nation's Report Card: Mathematics 2009 - The Nation's Report Card on mathematics was just released for grades 4 and 8. Only four states and Washington, DC reported mathematics gains in both grades. The four states were New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Nevada. It is important to note that New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island use the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) which is given annually to our students in grades 3 to 8 and 11. The Nation's Report Card is based on the National Assessment Educational Progress (NAEP) which is given to a sample of students in each state.
In grade 4 only Massachusetts (252) tested higher than New Hampshire (251). In grade 8 the following five states tested higher than New Hampshire (292) - Massachusetts (299), Minnesota (294), and North Dakota-New Jersey-Vermont (293).
