INSTRUCTION

Introduction - Curriculum, instruction, and assessment function in synergy to attain optimal student learning.  Curriculum is the what students must know and be able to do.  Instruction is the teaching of essential content and skills.  Assessment is the how we know students know it and are able to do it.  If students have not mastered the curriculum, students will receive intervention activities based on student needs.  This may include grouping students with similar learning gaps and re-teaching the curriculum.  Significant learning gaps may require intensive support.  If students have mastered the curriculum, students will receive enrichment activities or move on to new learning.

The district instructional plan is to continue to evaluate and refine district instruction in alignment with the NH Curriculum Framework's grade level and grade span expectations (GLE/GSE), Common Core State Standards, and 21st Century Skills Initiatives.

Please reference the Epping School District Reform Model " 21st Century Student Outcomes for College, Career, and Life Ready Students" for more information on the instructional goals.  Please click here to access this model.

Framework for Instruction - Curriculum, instruction, and assessment work in synergy to achieve effective teaching and learning.  The Curriculum Framework aligns the educational standards PK-12 for consistency within and across classrooms to ensure that all students understand and demonstrate the standards.  The Framework for Instruction is the instructional model used to deliver the curriculum.  The Assessment Plan provides for the systematic collection and analysis of student data to determine the effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.  Together the curriculum, instruction, and assessment frameworks serve as the foundation for the teacher evaluation system.

School Board Policy IIC states that to be successful instruction must consider a model appropriate for the learner, but also a schedule in which to provide the instruction.  The purpose of the Framework for Instruction is to provide the official model of instruction.  The Framework for Instruction is based on best instructional practice documented in educational research and implemented by school staff working with educational consultants.  The Framework is divided into planning and preparation, focus or mini lesson, practice/application, assessment and reflection, and classroom environment.  Click here for the Framework for Instruction.

Schools must also implement an instructional time schedule that meet the school's learning goals and specifies the distribution of instructional time for the arts, business, career and technical, driver, English, language arts, reading, family and consumer science, health, physical, information and communication technologies, mathematics, science, social studies, technology, and world language education.  Click here for the Instructional Time.
